General Provisions

  1. The child should be proficient in English, which is the language of instruction of the school.
  2. Zonnebloem Boys’ Primary is a boys’ only school.
  3. The maximum number of pupils, which is determined by our staffing and facilities, is currently 30 in Grade R and 35 in each of Grades 1.
  4. For consideration for admission to Grade R and Grade 1, the child should turn 6 by 31 December of his Grade R year, and 7 by 31 December of his/her Gr 1 year. In other Grades, pupils who are more than one year older than the Grade cohort will be accepted only if the Headmaster is of the opinion that such acceptance will be in the best interests of the child and ZBPS.
  5. NB! Learners are enrolled into Grade R at ZBPS with the acknowledgement that the said learner will be registering for Grade 1 in the following year.

In considering applications for admission to Zonnebloem Boys’ Primary School (ZBPS), the School Governing Body has resolved that the Headmaster will have discretion to admit pupils and, in the exercise of such discretion, priority will be given to applicants in the following order:

  1. A child who has a brother/sibling at ZBPS or ZGPS.
  2. A pupil who has a record of involvement in at least one of the cultural or sporting activities which form part of the school’s extra-curricular program, and who has a good disciplinary record. (upper grades)

The presence or absence of any of any of the above-mentioned factors is not a guarantee of acceptance to, or exclusion from, ZBPS.

The application process

  1. All applications must be made in writing on the school’s prescribed application forms, together with documentary proof requested to be attached thereto.
  2. Applications for Grade R and Grade 1 will be accepted only from the beginning of the First term.
  3. Applications for Grade R and Grade 1 close at the end of the second school term in the year prior to that for which application is made. We however encourage parents to finalize all applications before the end of the first term.
  4. At the end of June, all applicants will be notified as to the success or otherwise of their application.
  5. Applications for Grades 2 to 7 are dealt with on an ad hoc basis. Learners being enrolled for Grades 2 to 7 must be proficient in English as ALL subjects are taught in English. (read, write, speak & understand)

School Fees Zonnebloem Boys’ Primary is a fee-paying school. Code of Conduct Zonnebloem Boys’ Primary has a responsibility to provide an excellent quality of teaching and learning for its enrolled learners. Education however begins in the home and should be continued as a partnership between home and school in order to give every learner the best possible opportunity for success. All stakeholders need to be absolutely clear about what we can reasonably expect of each other. The Code of Conduct is formulated to ensure: A good administrative, teaching and learning organisation for all stakeholders That we promote a culture of shared responsibility and accountability in ALL our stakeholders (parents, learners and teachers) That the learners of Zonnebloem Boys’ are well disciplined, responsible and dignified young boys. At ZBPS our approach to discipline is one of restorative justice. We believe that zero-tolerance is a short term fix that doesn’t help us build the kind of community that we want at our school. Rather than focusing on rules, we aim to get at route causes, try to repair damage to harmed relationships, and prevent reoccurrence. Restorative justice offers a sustainable, equitable approach that builds a connected school community in which we can all thrive. To this end, we strive to create a culture of positive behaviour supported by a positive attitude and work ethic that are driven by excellent professional behaviour by the staff, support structures and planning.
